My Baby is One!!!

Apologies for not writing in a goons age, but here I am and so you can read if you still care!

I don't know how many people out there have experienced this, but my second baby's year FLEW BY!! I feel like my first baby I was watching EV-ERY-THING and for some reason it seems like this last year has been a bit of a blur!!

Therefore-I'm taking this opportunity to reminisce about our year together!

First off-I never did document his little entry into this world so skip this paragraph if you're not interested; it's primarily for me to remember-secondarily for your reading enjoyment.
Sooooo......for 3 weeks before his birth I was going in to see my midwife regularly because I was 90% effaced and 6cm dialated. I really wasn't physically uncomfortable at all-besides the watermelon I was carrying around. The only uncomfortable  terrifying thing was that I was given strict instructions to have a towel in my car in case I had him at a grocery store or random car ride.....thanks midwives for nearly scaring that baby right out of me!
With LOTS of different people on call-we awaited his arrival. Finally his due date was coming, as well as my mom, as well as my favorite midwife's on call day and so we planned to try and induce labor (don't worry we checked to make sure that was okay!) After we got my mom here safely, we decided to do everything we could to get him to make an appearance. We walked and walked and walked and hiked and walked and ate pineapple and walked and ate spice food and hiked and then with some encouragement from family I decided to try CASTOR OIL!
FYI-it works!
1 and half tablespoons, lots of juice and crackers later...my tummy started bubbling and about 2 hours later I started having steady contractions.
I was lying in bed at 3:45 am when they started and were about a minute apart. I got kyle, we went straight to the hospital, the hospital ladies were very calm until they got me on a bed and checked me and I was dialated to an 8-They called the midwife and told her that she needed to get there asap.
They were all worried that one of them was going to have to catch him and they were asking each other who was going to do it.....hmmm comforting.
The one nurse tried to give me an IV-GAH-just thinking about it is awful. They couldn't get a vein and were prodding around so much that I started to puke my brains out.

*SIDENOTE-if you can avoid excessive puking while having consistent contractions, I would highly recommend it!

Just when my midwife showed up my body was pushing-I can't really explain it-it was just happening on it's own and right before 6am he made his appearance! He was 8lbs on the dot and 19" long.  WHEW-thans to my mother's amazing birthing genes, recovery was pretty easy-and the whole birth process wasn't terrible. Obviously it's birth...lets be honest it's not a carousel ride but it went really well!

*THIS IS WHERE YOU WANT TO START READING IF YOU SKIPPED THE BIRTH!

Thus-baby Owen was born and he's been a huge blessing in our family.
His big sister LOVES him and anyone that knows here can attest that she is a relentless baby-lover!
She smothers him with kisses and now that he is bigger he can keep his own when they play. It's adorable.

We don't really do the whole birthday party thing-it's more of a family affair, no gifts or anything-the kid doesn't know what day it is right? I don't mind if you judge-but we did go out to this new kids play place in the valley. It was really fun. Luckily the playing tuckered both my kids out and we enjoyed a lovely two hour nap-that is the best birthday present EVER!!

As a one year old he can:
walk, say 'what's that', mama, dada, book, 'inny' (Indie), and sign a couple things.
He LOVES to play with rolling objects, specifically footballs, tennis balls and cars.
He is a fussy eater and spits out everything once before putting it back in his mouth.
He is SUPER happy and laughs and smiles at everything!
He is a cuddler-an is jealous if I am carrying another baby.
He LOVES the stairs and has almost mastered the art of coming down backwards. (which is great since the only stairs by our house are cement!)
Indie and him have their morning hug and then proceed to the couch where she pulls him up by an arm and they play catch! She mostly just throws the ball at him and he laughs.

This is what happens when a tired daddy changes him in the middle of the night-he ends up in his sister's jammies...but he's still soooo cute!

He is tall and has an enormous head-but it's because he's brilliant!
He cries any time we come inside or he can't go outside-that's because he's his father's son,
and he cries when he's hungry and that's because I'm his mother.
He is ridiculously ticklish, especially on his chin...oddly enough.
He LOVES outlets-his sister couldn't care less, but apparently they call to him.

One of his favorite indoor pastimes

I seriously LOVE him to pieces and can't imagine life without him.

Sorry for the sap at the end-it's just the way things go when you see your baby growing up!!!
