I'll be honest, I've prided myself and Kyle on making fairly responsible decisions since we have been married. When people think we have made mistakes as newlyweds, I prefer to call them 'marriage experiences' and 'opportunities to learn'. I also have prided myself on being pretty good with vocabulary and being professional, I always got 100% on my vocab tests in school, and I have never not had an interview somewhere where I have applied. However, I think my lack of experience in the work force for the past...almost 2 years has dulled my professional senses and perhaps I 'prided' myself more than I should have.
Let me tell you a story and I hope you find some enjoyment from reading about my embarrassing but hilarious blunder!
Recently I was offered to interview for a stay at home job position-that sounds wonderful to a stay at home/part time student/apartment manager mother. All of my correspondence has been over email and my 'hopefully new boss' was trying to set a time to have a telephone interview. In his letter he said that he would 'like to meet me between 2-4 mst if that would work'. SOOOOOOO my overactive, not in-the-work-force brain was like...'what the heck is mst?' I thought it was a new version of skype or something. The more I think of it, 'MST' sounds more like something you find in Asian Chicken?
Anyways, I called Kyle-he was at work and not supposed to be on the phone and when I told him 'this guy wants to meet me on mst and I don't know what that is' he didn't even respond to what MST was, he was more concerned with who this guy was and why he wanted to meet me. Needless to say we didn't decide what MST was.
SOOOOOOO-here comes the major blunder- I email my 'hopefully new boss' as professionally as I can, and tell him that I'd love to meet 'but I'm not familiar with MST, if you let me know how to do it, I will meet with you at your earliest convenience'. Those of you that are reading this who are not yet sure what MST stands for, let me enlighten you now, as my 'hopefully new boss' enlightened me in his next email. 'Jill MST stands for Mountain Standard Time, You live in Idaho right?' Thank you hopefully new boss 'Mr. Probably not my new boss because I'm a complete ditz'.
It gets more blundery.....
I figured LOL in a response email was probably TOO unprofessional, but I did settle for a HA HA instead, because it's all I could think of!!! Oh dear-I may not be employed any time soon.
Stay tuned for my 'after-the-interview' experience. I'll have to let you know if I get the job!!
