I forgot to wipe the counter after cutting an onion for an omelet which led to toast and jam with a hint of onion….not what I was expecting to wake me up this morning. Yucky!
ANYWAYS...
I am pleased to say that my love of pinterest has planted a creative seed in me, which has been very fruitful the last couple days-particularly yesterday.
After a very successful stop at DI (our local 2nd hand store) I found a bed sheet for $1 and a dress for $2 that would be the PERFECT material for all kinds of projects! I was able to make a cute little skirt for Indie, a skirt for myself, and I’m in the middle of an apron, which I’m proud of!

After sewing my life away I moved on to the task of coming up with prizes for the bridal shower games that I am in charge of for my friend. With an empty jar of jam I was able to melt a practically finished candle and make a new one (so cute, and smells lovely),
and then make a jar of cookie mix (flour, sugar, chocolate chips etc) out of the jar from the candle,
I made homemade soap and put it into an empty soap container that I made prettier…(I hope)
and made a cup of hot chocolate from a mix and marshmallows in a Mug. The process was SO CHEAP, which fits my lifestyle perfectly, and only cost me the money for the wick for the candle! I also made clothespin magnets and scratch and win tickets for everyone at the shower to receive a special prize!
I was on such a roll that I decided to cook a chicken as a surprise for Kyle. I should have known when to stop and thus began the saga of the whole chicken! I really don’t like bones in my chicken, but since it was cheaper Kyle committed to making it since I don’t really know how- but I thought it would be a pleasant surprise for him to see that I was willing to try new things and so I began the daunting task.
To start it says to remove the GIBLETS….. I’ll be honest- I had no clue what that meant so I called some family and was able to find out. Turns out that just handling the chicken wasn’t a good thing either-the soft, bumpy, slimy skin was leading me to gag a little and the blood coming out of where the head should have been started me into a downward spiral quite quickly. Indie started to fuss and so I washed my hands and called my neighbour to enlist her help. She VERY sweetly came over and removed the inners of the chicken for me (as I peered over her shoulder) and I’m glad she did because I was then able to then prepare it by covering it in olive oil (with a knife since I don’t own a basting brush and rubbing the dead chicken was not on my list of things to do right now) and putting it in the oven in preparation for Kyle’s arrival.
It was lovely-but I have learned some lessons: 1.stop while I am ahead and 2. I am way wimpier than I thought I was when it came to raw meat!

Jill your amazing! The prize/gifts you made are too cute. What good ideas. Don't you love pinterest! And you need to come teach me to sew haha :)
